Creative enviroment
One of the cool things about working in publishing is that you are surrounded by creative types. Writers, photographers, graphic artists are around every corner of my workplace. So many of us are in the practice of sharing our creativity, sometimes even outside of work. Recently, I had the pleasure of going to Oskar Blues in Longmont and watching a show by the Quentin Young Band. During the show, two of my co-workers, Quentin Young and Kimberli Turner performed a duet, check it out.
On my way to work...
On my way to work may end up being the title to a number of my blog post. I acquired a pocket camera to aid in my daily quest to capture small (and sometimes big) moments that would otherwise be left to words or fleeting descriptions, of a perspective in Boulder County, along the Front Range in Colorado.
Colorado, in a word, is picturesque. Having a camera at all times is a mandate.
So, on my way to work, I came across this image of a hot air balloon, flying on a very cold day, along the Front Range. Came across, really means saw the balloon while driving down 95th street and racing to a place to try to capture an image before the balloon landed. I was pleased with the results and the newspaper actually published it on A1. Since I don't normally shoot for a daily newspaper, I was please that it was so well received.
Back in the saddle again
Inspired by a couple of friends that started up blogs and wanting a more public place to share my thoughts and images that other social networking sights I am back at it here on blogger. Look for rants, raves and favs in the form of words and images. If you have a thought chime in, if not thanks for looking.

Students and teachers move to iPad tech
Alexander Dawson school in Lafayette will issue lessons and iPads next year. Students will have no need for words printed on paper any longer, I tried to tell them they were media and not just a newspaper.

New Direction
Topics of the day, survival of traditional print media in the new world of iPhones, iTouchs and soon to surface iPads. Will traditional newspapers survive the invention of the blog or will our news end up being some extension of rumor, without fact checking or multiple sources.

Recipe for success
With the government scrambling to give corporate bailouts and consumers cutting back, we were wondering what is your recipe for success?
Shopping at thrift stores, taking stay-cations, eating out less frequently all can save you money. You can be frugal in a tough economic climate by simply modifying items like your at-home dinner menu. Things like buying rice and beans in bulk saves money over buying individual portions of food.
Here is a tasty recipe we like to use when feeling frugal; it feeds 4 or 5 people and costs under $10 (even less if you look for the deals and buy when items are on sale.) What are your money saving tips?
VEGETARIAN CHILI
1 c. celery sliced
1 c. onion chopped
1 c. bell pepper sliced
1 tsp. garlic powder or tbs fresh garlic
1 tbs. chili powder
1 tsp. cumin
2 tbs. oil
1 tbs. red wine vinegar
2 c. water
1/2 c. lentils
16 oz. can tomatoes in juice diced
2 tbs. tomato paste
1/4 c. green chilies chopped
10 oz. red kidney beans drained and rinsed
Salt & pepper to taste
Rice 1 1/2 c.
Cheese 1/2 c. shredded cheddar
Instructions
Heat a large skillet and add oil, onions, celery, bell peppers. Cook 4 minutes, or until onions are translucent. Add chili powder, cumin, garlic salt and pepper. Cook one minute. Add water and bring to boil. Add lentils, reduce heat cover and simmer 20 minutes. Add tomatoes with juice, tomato paste, chopped green chilies and vinegar. Cover and cook for 20 min on low heat.
Add rinsed kidney beans (I like red, but any kidney bean will work) and bring back to a simmer. Serve over rice and top with cheddar cheese. Enjoy.
Now, do you have a money saving tip or recipe to share?
